The Cross-Cultural Dance Company was created under the direction of Kira Lang in 2008 in order to bring dances from around the world to Atlanta audiences.
Starting as a student troupe in 2007 the CCDC dancers have been performing around the South East. They have performed in festivals, at conventions, restaurants and shows. All of the troupe members continue to study with local and national teachers of different dance styles as well as study the history and culture of the dances we perform.
Kira:
As an inner city youth Kira's first teachers were break dancers. Thus her first performances were on the streets of Atlanta in the mid 80's. Much of her early dance educations came bout by having a watchful eye, lots of time in front of a mirror and Music Videos on MTV.
An early understanding of creating dance by improvisational performance and experimental technique with a critical but fun loving audience helped Kira to learn not to take herself too seriously.
After being hit by a car and shattering a knee cap, break dancing became painful and Martial Arts became therapy. Kira currently holds a blue belt in Shotokan and green in Muay Thai.
For years Kira's dance expression was limited to the dance floor in the local Atlanta Clubs and concerts.
In 2000 Kira began studying belly dance intensively and exploring dances of many other countries, as well. After joining the Society for Creative Anachronism and studying with local and visiting teachers her interest in the culture and history of the dances, and people who danced them, became as important as learning the steps, costuming and music.
